Iran Rejects US Proposal On Ending War, Lays Down Conditions: Report

Iran has rejected a recent US peace proposal aimed at ending the ongoing Middle East war, which escalated after US and Israeli strikes on February 28, 2026, killing Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and top officials. Tehran dismissed the 15-point plan—delivered via Pakistan—as “excessive” and insists on ending the conflict only on its own terms.

Iran’s Conditions

A senior Iranian official outlined five key conditions for any ceasefire, as reported by state media Press TV:

  • Complete halt to US and Israeli “aggression and assassinations.”

  • Concrete safeguards against future military actions.

  • Guaranteed compensation for war damages.

  • Ceasefire on all fronts, including for regional resistance groups like Hezbollah.

  • International recognition of Iran’s sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran vows to continue defensive operations and inflict “heavy blows” until these are met, citing past US deceptions in negotiations.

US Proposal Details

The US plan, mediated through Pakistan and Egypt, includes sanctions relief in exchange for curbing Iran’s nuclear program, missile limits, reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and restrictions on support for armed groups. It comes amid rising oil prices from Iran’s strait restrictions and over 1,500 Iranian deaths reported.

The nearly month-long war has killed at least 13 US troops, 20 Israelis (including in Lebanon), and civilians in Gulf states and the West Bank. The White House downplays the rejection, while limited US-Iran outreach via intermediaries continues, though full negotiations are off the table for now.
