New LPG Booking Rules: Urban Users Must Wait 25 Days, Rural Consumers 45 Days

India has introduced new LPG cylinder booking rules amid Middle East tensions affecting supply, requiring urban consumers to wait 25 days and rural ones 45 days before rebooking after delivery. These changes aim to prevent hoarding and ensure equitable distribution, as some users were booking extras despite adequate national stocks.

Urban areas now enforce a 25-day lock-in period post-delivery, up from previous norms like 21 days, while rural and remote regions require 45 days to align with lower usage (around 5 cylinders yearly). Delivery time remains 2-3 days after booking, and an OTP verification system has been added for security during handover.

Tensions, including Strait of Hormuz issues, sparked panic buying, though officials confirm no shortage—domestic production is up 28%, with international sourcing possible. Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri stated this as a demand management step.

Avoid unnecessary bookings; supplies prioritize essentials like hospitals. Check your distributor app or portal for eligibility based on your last delivery date and location classification.
