Opposition to Move Impeachment Motion Against CEC Gyanesh Kumar

Opposition alleges Kumar’s “completely biased conduct” in overseeing SIR, which they claim deletes voter names—especially minorities and poor—to favor the ruling party. Protests include “go back” slogans during his Kolkata temple visit amid West Bengal dharna by Mamata Banerjee.
As of March 9, 2026, TMC drafted the notice collaboratively; submission expected post no-confidence debate on Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. Signatures needed: 100 Lok Sabha MPs or 50 Rajya Sabha MPs; INDIA bloc is collecting them for Budget session debate. Removal follows Supreme Court judge process per 2023 Act.
Similar threats arose in August 2025 and February 2026 over Bihar voter lists and SIR, but March 2026 marks unified action. This escalates trust deficit amid Parliament tensions.
