‘Make America Go Away’: spoof Maga caps soar in popularity amid Greenland crisis
Protesters in Denmark and Greenland have popularized parody red baseball caps reading “Make America Go Away,” spoofing President Trump’s MAGA slogan amid his renewed push to acquire the territory. These hats, featuring phrases like “Nu det NUUK” (a pun on Greenland’s capital meaning “Now it’s enough”), sold out rapidly after large demonstrations on January 17-18, 2026.
Thousands rallied in Copenhagen’s City Hall Square and other sites against Trump’s tariffs on Europe and demands for Greenland, waving flags and signs like “Hands off Greenland” and “No Means No.” The hats, created by Copenhagen vintage store owner Jesper Rabe Tonnesen, flopped initially but surged in demand as U.S. rhetoric escalated, with thousands more ordered.
The spoof caps symbolize Danish-Greenlandic unity and defiance, appearing widely on social media and at freezing-weather protests. Variants mock U.S. claims humorously, boosting anti-acquisition sentiment as European leaders defend Arctic sovereignty.
